Valeria Escobedo's Biography


  • Bachelor’s degree in English from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio (STMU)
  • Master’s degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)

Prior Experience

I have taught 9th grade ELA in San Antonio, Texas for the last 5 years. I have taught 8th Grade ELA at Western for the last 2 year!  I was also the Class of 2015 Sponsor and completed projects and fundraisers with this class for 4 years.

My Favorite Book/A Book I Recommend

There are 2 books I really love and they are both by the same author, Khaled Hosseini. A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner. These novels take the reader on a wonderful journey that will be remembered long after you finish the book. They are phenomenal. Also, the Harry Potter series will forever have my heart!

Hobbies and Interests

For fun, I enjoy traveling, playing soccer, watching funny movies. I also really like spending time with my family and trying to teach my dog, Mozart, every trick in the book. 

Little Known Facts About Me

I grew up in sunny El Paso, Texas, a border city with Mexico. Spanish is also my first language and I love all Pixar movies, the Toy Story trilogy being my favorite.I have the coolest dog ever, a Miniature Schnauzer named Mozart. Other things I love: chocolate, Snoopy, London and root beer floats!

Learning Experience that Changed Me

A learning experience that has changed me was studying abroad when I was in college. During my time in London and other countries, I was able to gain a new perspective of the world, language barriers and varying cultures. I learned more about myself and my own background during this time in a foreign countries; it was awesome!
